In this self-help guide, Rhonda Byrne reveals how the wisdom of the ages can help us tap into the powers within ourselves as she shares contemporary stories from those who have used positive thinking to attain happiness, wealth, and success.

Eckhart Tolle is a gentle guide for change, first in ourselves and then in the world. Addressing the dysfunction all around us, he encourages us to see the source--our egos, which he explains in some depth but also puts simply as "the voices in our head." Letting go of our egos, we will let go of much of our pain, and will be able to embark on a journey of discovery and "re-creation." There is much of the natural world in his argument, as he encourages us to connect to the things in the earth and sky that can bring enlightenment. Tolle reflects that we are microcosms of the larger universe, and that human consciousness and the physical world are connected. If we break free from old ways of thinking and seeing, we can change ourselves, individually and collectively. We can, in his view, create a "new species," one more fully awakened, that can then "re-create" Earth. A 2008 Oprah's Book Club selection.

At the age of 31, Betty J. Eadie died during surgery, and lived to write about it. Her affecting and, to many, entirely plausible account of the extraordinary circumstances of her journey from life to death and back again helped unleash a torrent of similar accounts--narratives which, in their remarkable details, appear to push back the veil surrounding our mortality and provide a glimpse of the joyful abundance she believes we are all meant to experience.

One of the hardest tasks on a spiritual journey is letting go of ingrained thought processes, beliefs, opinions, and obsessions in order to plunge directly into the reality of the moment. And yet Eckhart Tolle believes this is the key to transformation. THE POWER OF NOW is a direct, simple, and highly readable explication of this powerful principle. Written in a Socratic question-and-answer form, Tolle describes the process of letting go of our ego-identified selves, our "pain bodies," and embracing the present moment. He outlines the pitfalls that sabotage our attempts to change our lives, and gently leads the reader to discover the incorruptible joy that resides within all of us. While Tolle's approach is certainly not new--it revisits the basic tenets of Buddhism and several mystical schools--its fresh and non-dogmatic presentation gives new life to a worthwhile message.

Before he became a best-selling author, Neale Donald Walsch was a newspaper reporter and managing editor, radio station program director, public information officer for one of the nation's largest public school systems, creator and owner of his own advertising and marketing firm, and a nationally syndicated radio talk show host. Then, in 1992, during a period of intense personal frustration, he sat down and fired off what he has since referred to as "an angry letter to God." And no one was more surprised than Walsch when God answered it, communicating with him through "automatic writing," a process that yielded what was eventually published as "Conversations with God". Powered initially by strong word-of-mouth promotion, the best-selling book has spawned a cottage industry in lectures, programs, seminars, workshops, and retreats by the author, and the promise of two additional volumes.

The physicist and author of "The Dancing Wu Li Masters", which won the American Book Award in Science, offers a major statement. He sees mankind as being on a brink of a new phase of evolution, where old ideas of power and conflict give way to a more spiritual and cooperative way.

This classic in the self-help genre encourages readers to do the work to change their lives. Louise Hay believes that we create our own lives, and here she presents exercises and affirmations intended to help the reader grow and to discard the limiting ideas and attitudes that can affect one's mental and physical health.

Shakti Gawain, a leader in the world consciousness movement, helps readers to dramatically change their lives for the better. Using techniques of mental imagery and affirmation, as well as exercises and meditations, the reader can break negative habits, improve their self esteem, achieve goals--in short, become the person that they envision themselves to be.

Dr. Brian Weiss shares fascinating, true stories of souls bound eternally by love as he relates the incredible tale of two patients who have been lovers through the centuries, and who he helped to reunite.

Bestselling author and frequent daytime talk show guest Sylvia Browne offers more of her visions and tales of personal experience in this fascinating book. Readers of her earlier ADVENTURES OF A PSYCHIC who want more will be enchanted by her discussions of discovering past lives via regressive hypnosis, and how to make predictions for the future; she also tells how to avoid the dark side and how to deal with hauntings. Browne talks at length about spirit guides and, in particular, about her own spirit guide, Francine, who provides Sylvia with many unusual facts about the world beyond. Francine describes the spirit world as existing in an alternate dimension three feet above our own (which is why we see spirits seeming to float in the air) with an interesting range of architecture (such as log cabins, ancient Roman architecture, and geodesic domes), fashion shows, sporting events, arts, crafts, and hobbies. Though readers with preconceived ideas about such things may be put off by Browne's homespun ideas, they should still find this a fascinating book about the beliefs and experiences of a practicing and respected psychic, and they will of course be in heaven over her funny tales and openhearted guidance.

Carlos Castaneda applies the teachings of Don Juan to dreaming and shows how to enhance and learn from one's dream experiences.

Esther Hicks is a medium who has long acted as a channel for a nonphysical group of beings known as Abraham. She dictated these teachings to her husband, Jerry, who put them into this book, which presents an insightful way to perceive the world and one's place in it in order to better fulfill one's own desires. According to Abraham, tangible, living beings are actually physical extensions of non-tangible "source energy." By remembering one's connection to this nonphysical force it becomes possible to experience the moment, the "now," as pure being or vibration. Then comes the realization that every action affects every other action, intent sets wheels in motion for that intent's fulfillment, and thus dreams cannot help but come true. The book includes 22 processes by which this power might be accessed, including meditation, pivoting, scripting, and processes known as "The Magical Creation Box" and "The Focus Wheel Process." They also discuss such concepts as "the vibrational set point" and the "emotional guidance system." Whatever one's beliefs about inter-dimensional channeling may be, these are all valuable tools for personal growth and discovery.
