Factoring Humanity

For years, scientists have had no luck in understanding a series of continuous transmissions from outer space. The signals have been coming for so long that, to most people, they are just part of the white noise of daily life in the 21st century, but one day they stop. In the silence that follows, one scientist--whose personal life has collapsed in the wake of her zeal to understand the transmissions--decodes the message, and what it tells her to do will change humankind for ever.
