Ed McBain's famously long-running 87th precinct series comes to a rousing close with this posthumously published police procedural. The cops at the 87th struggle to stem the rapidly growing body count of a serial killer who shoots all of his victims in the face. Finding clues to the killer and his or her motivations is particularly tough because the only obvious element shared by the deceased is that they're all over 50 years of age.
