Small-town Police Chief Jesse Stone is thrust into a media firestorm when an ill-famed talk-show host is found hanged to death just outside town. Shortly after, the body of a young woman is also discovered, and the media pressure intensifies. Stone can't seem to find any leads, and is further mystified when the relatives of the victims don't seem to be very upset or moved by the gruesome killings. When he finally finds a link between the murders, things begin to slide into focus, and Stone must solve what is perhaps the most challenging, heartbreaking case he has ever faced in the town of Paradise.

Media Reviews
"If Spenser is the invincible knight, the timeless hero of American detective fiction, then Jesse Stone is the flawed hero of the moment, a man whose deficiencies define his humanity... you want to cheer."
