Homegrown Democrat
A Few Plain Thoughts from the Heart of America
by Garrison Keillor
Review this book!
American humorist Garrison Keillor provides an interesting small-town take on democratic (and Democratic) values in this somewhat urgent, sometimes angry polemic. Keillor finds the old traditional values to be still viable: honesty, simplicity, a concern for one's neighbor, and, yes, a homey religiosity. Indignation over what he terms "yahooism" is the message here, and Keillor's Main Street-style both looks back and points the way forward for a party, and an America, in need of renewal.

Publisher Notes
In a deeply personal celebration of liberalism, the popular humorist and radio host examines the "politics of kindness," offering a series of nostalgic reminiscences, meditations, and observations on the core values--the defense of the powerless, the protection of the social compact, and maintaining government as a force for good--of the democratic ideal. Reprint. 75,000 first printing.
