by Melinda Long
Review this book!
While playing at the beach, a young boy is taken in by a band of pirates who request that he use his extraordinary sand shoveling skills to help them bury their treasure. At first the boy loves the freedom of life among the pirates (especially not eating spinach and having no set bedtime). However, he soon discovers that he might, indeed, be a landlubber at heart. Color illustrations accompany the text.

Media Reviews
"Shannon's illustrations are pure gold: dense, detailed caricatures that affectionately satirize buccaneer fantasy."
Synopses
Jeremy Jacob joins Braid Beard and his pirate crew and finds out about pirate language, pirate manners, and other aspects of their life.
First Line
Pirates have green teeth--when they have any teeth at all. I know about pirates, because one day, when I was at the beach building a sand castle and minding my own business, a pirate ship sailed into view.
