Mindscan
by Robert J. Sawyer
Review this book!
This hard SF novel by Robert J. Sawyer is a fresh exploration of a consistently compelling science fiction trope: if it were possible to copy someone's mind, what would identity and humanity mean? To avoid being felled by the congenital condition that made his father a vegetable, Jake avails himself of a new technology that duplicates his mind into a state-of-the-art mechanical body. The original, human Jake accepts exile on the moon, while android Jake takes over the former's possessions and finds romance with Karen, the android version of a popular fantasy author. Unfortunately, the lovers discover that their previous, organic selves are not as easily discarded and forgotten as they had hoped.
