This sensitively written work of women's fiction is a direct follow-up to SUMMER'S CHILD. Nine years ago, heavily pregnant Mara Jameson escaped her abusive husband, Edward, by faking her death and changing her name to Lily Malone. Despite the health problems of her daughter ,Rose, Mara/Lily has found a measure of happiness in Nova Scotia with another man, one-armed oceanographer Liam Neill. But now her carefully constructed new life is threatened. Lily's beloved grandmother is seriously ill, impelling Lily's return to her Connecticut hometown...and to a confrontation with Edward, who, alerted that his wife and child are still alive, becomes determined to gain custody of Rose.
