William Morgan is an American marine AWOL in Havana who is soon entangled in the political turmoil surrounding the rebellion of 1957 led by Fidel Castro. Laura, his Cuban lover, successfully persuades Morgan to join her in the fight to overthrow Batista. Through his efforts as an experienced guerilla warrior, and despite numerous conspiracies and betrayals, he ultimately becomes a reluctant American hero of Castro's political and military causes.
