Publisher Notes
An evocative collection of folktales features the prophet Elijah, a messenger from heaven who comes to earth in many disguises. By the author of The Uninvited Guest.
Media Reviews
"Longer than traditional folktales but fine for reading aloud or alone, these are elaborated with an accessible balance of narrative and dialogue. The jubilant watercolor paintings that introduce each story are light-filled, with vivacious coloration and spontaneous movement."
First Line
Long ago in Zabledov, there was a "melamed," a Hebrew schoolteacher named Reb Yakov. He lived in a small hut on the top of a hill, near the town's synagogue. He was very, very poor. In fact, the only possession he had worth anything at all was the big iron stove that sat in the middle of his tiny house.
