Media Reviews
"Full and expert coverage of every aspect of musical life in America."
Excerpt
In the sense we use it here, it comprehends first of all the music made in the United States, by Americans; more ambiguous is the situation regarding music written by foreign composers who retain their national identity while living in the USA. Analogous to them are conductors, singers, and instrumentalists who settle in the United States or pay it prolonged visits. The other side of that coin is the American musician who makes his or her career abroad, and often settles there. In the former cases, we have had to weigh the importance of such visitors to the United States in terms of their contributions to the musical life of the country and include them (or not) in the dictionary accordingly. Americans abroad remain Americans, and likewise have a claim to consideration in our pages. If we have erred, we hope it is on the side of inclusiveness.
