Hanan Ashrawi is well known to television news viewers as the former spokesperson for the Palestinian leaders in the West Bank. In this autobiography, she tells of the struggles she has faced being a Christian Arab woman in a male-dominated, Muslim environment. She writes candidly of the conflict she has felt between motherhood and the cause of Palenstinian liberation. Ashrawi has also been a leader in the struggle for women's rights in the Middle East, and her work in that area has led her to forge strong friendships with Israeli women of which she writes movingly.
