Review this book!

This supernatural thriller is the second in a series that takes place in a United States whose population includes individuals known as "Violets" (for their eye color) who are capable of communicating with and channeling the dead. After the death of her lover, FBI agent Dan Atwater , Violet Natalie Lindstrom quit using her abilities to investigate and testify in murder cases. Natalie is attempting to maintain a quiet life for herself and her Violet daughter Callie, despite the persistent efforts of her old employer, the government agency known as the North American Afterlife Communication Corps, to recruit Callie. But Natalie is forced back into her old profession when a Violet's testimony in two critical murder cases appears to be compromised, possibly by the dead serial killer whose spirit drove Natalie's mother insane.

Publisher Notes

Five years after the events of THROUGH VIOLET EYES, Natalie Lindstrom is struggling to make it on her own--without Dan, without NAACP support, and with a small daughter to support. She is keeping herself alive in the private sector by contacting the dead for grieving relatives, enabling them to make their peace--or not--with the departed, and trying to keep her Violet-eyed daughter out of the NAACC's clutches.

But then when an old friend and public prosecutor comes to Natalie for help on a particular case, Natalie once again finds herself dragged into the world she sought so hard to avoid. But how can she not help? A corrupt lawyer is on the verge of getting his second murderous client acquited--this one a young boy accused of brutally slaughtering his parents. So Natalie agress to help her old friend--very illegally, and very much behind the scenes. And, as it happens, that is only the beginning of her problems. Especially since, in the world of the Violets, secrets from your own past can literally come back to haunt you...

First Line

Prescott "Scott" Hyland Jr. fidgeted in his chair, discomfited by the oxford shirt and Dockers he wore. Left to choose his own wardrobe, he'd be in a wife-beater T-shirt and board shorts, but Lathrop insisted he go for the preppie look.
