Books by Gay Talese
Born: 11/25/1932Gay Talese Biography & Notes
Talese made his reputation writing at Esquire and other prominent magazines of the '60s. Many of his profiles and other articles, collected in FAME AND OBSCURITY, are examples of the New Journalism, which broke many of established rules of journalism (including objectivity) and employed some techniques from fiction. Talese wrote a corporate biography of the New York Times, where he worked, called THE KINGDOM & THE POWER, and his book on the mafia, HONOR THY FATHER, is a respected piece of investigative journalism and expository prose. Talese spent several years researching THY NEIGHBOR'S WIFE, his book on sexual practices in the '70s. He was married to Nan Talese, a prominent book editor with her own imprint at Doubleday.
