Jean Cocteau Biography & Notes
Cocteau was a writer, an artist, and a journalist, as well as a screenwriter and director. He published his first volume of poetry at 19--a huge success--followed by a ballet, an aesthetic manifesto, and a second volume of poetry. He subsequently became a major figure in French cultural life as a poetic voice in a wide range of genres.
