New York: International Magazine Company, 1935. First edition. Wrappers. Very Good. A Very Good copy of the FIRST APPEARANCE IN PRINT of Agatha Christie's "The A.B.C. Murders", a work of Crime Fiction featuring Hercule Poirot, Arthur Hastings, and Chief Inspector Japp, published as an abridged version in the November, 1935 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine and featuring illustrations by Frederic Mizen. This TRUE FIRST APPEARANCE was followed by a UK serialization published in the UK's Daily Express in sixteen parts running from Monday, November 28 to Thursday, December 12, 1935, with each installment having an illustration by Steven Spurrier. Neither the US first publication nor the subsequent UK serialization contained chapter divisions. Both publications were abridged, with the US first appearance being far more complete than was the UK serialization, which serialization -- as opposed to the first American publication in Cosmopolitan -- totally omitted Captain Hastings' Foreword, omitted most of chapters 7 and 20, and omitted chapters 26, 32, and 35 in their entirety -- the UK first appearance thus, with its other abridgments, altogether omitting almost 40% of the text. The novel was then published in book form without abridgment or omission in the UK by William Collins & Sons on January 6, 1936 and in America by Dodd, Mead and Company on February 14, 1936. This copy is in Very Good condition with modest edge wear, some wear to the spine (which shows some minor loss as well as one tape repair running from the spine edge of the front wrapper to the spine edge of the rear wrapper, and a few minor spots of foxing the the leading margin of some pages). A Very Good copy of this QUITE SCARCE TRUE FIRST APPEARANCE IN PRINT of Agatha Christie's "The A.B.C. Murders". QUITE SCARCE INDEED.

First Edition. (1993) Hardcover with d.j. Fine with near fine dust jacket. D.J. has slight curl on top edge and light rubbing on back. No worn edges. Tight binding with clean, sharp pages. No markings. 305 pages. Dolores Claiborne is a psychological thriller novel. The novel is narrated by the title character. Atypically for a King novel, it has no chapters, double-spacing between paragraphs, or other section breaks; thus the text is a single continuous narrative which reads like the transcription of a spoken monologue. This book is dedicated to King's mother: "For my mother, Ruth Pillsbury King."

Description:
Collins White Circle Pocket Edition #228. Great 1940s cover! Colonel Anthony Gethryn must prove a man innocent of a murder he's been convicted for in only 5 days. MacDonald was a great practitioner of the mystery-suspense genre; his books remain readable, even if his characters are nowhere near as enlightened as we tend to be today. Please read this volume in its historical context. A very clean copy, spine slightly darkened with very faint reading crease: see photos.
