This edition was originally published in 1847 as a correction of the editions of 1835 and 1831, and also includes some of Johnson's correspondence with Mrs. Thrale and his Notes on a Tour of Wales. Octavo, 9 3/4" tall, frontispiece and illustrated title page, xxx + 874 pages + 10 engraved illustrations; gilt titles and decorations on brown cloth. A good, generally clean and sturdy volume overall with moderate shelf wear and rubbing, fore-corner tips worn through to boards BUT with significant chipping to the spine cloth which is frayed and missing the bottom four inches; interior very good however, with hinges and bindings solid, paper lightly yellowed.

Description:
London: John Murray, 1831. large print edition, first thus. Leather bound. Very good. 5 1/2 x 9 in. First edition thus with the notes by John Croker, 1831. Rebound c. 1900 by Baynton, Bath, in half scarlet calf with raised spine bands, gilt decorations, fully gilt text edges. Marbled endpapers. Frontis portraits in each, with tissue guards. Condition is VERY GOOD ; mild shadowing to the title pgs from the frontis, but unlike many of this printing, there is no foxing to the text or fold-out plates. Covers are clean with wear to the exterior of the joints but no cracking of weakness to the hinges. Leather corners have some surface scuffs. Mild shelf wear. Spines are uniformly toned to a dark red and all lack the title and volume number labels. Bindings tight and text very clean, bright and unmarked. We treat all fine bindings with Talas leather conditioner.Johnson & Boswell RGR.

Description:
London: Henry C. Bohn, 1853. Leather bound. The Croker Edition of Boswell complete in ten volumes. Uniformly bound in 3/4 brown leather and marbled boards. Gilt decorated spines; marbled endpapers; top edges gilt. In addition, there is an extra volume added in the same matching binding which is an 1845 edition of Johnsoniana where the two volumes are bound as one. A few touches of shelf wear but the set in overall fine condition. Includes all engraved plates and frontispieces called for. Small octavos, measuring 4x7 inches. Includes Boswell's Life of Johnson plus the Tour of the Hebrides in vols. I-VIII plus two volumes of Johnsoniana.
