One of Jeanne Weil Proust's last portraits, less than a year before her death
This portrait was taken on December 5th 1904. At this time, aged 56 years old, Proust's mother has been a widow for a year. The translation of his son's The Bible of Amiens was published that same year. She died of nephritis a year later, on September 26, 1905. Nadar did process her portrait, and removed the shadows and various flaws on her face.
Michel Schneider notes that the narrator's mother in the Search is obviously inspired by the mother of the author himself. Scarce. Likely one of just a few published copies of the British edition in existence. Hardcover Near Fine. No DJ. First edition of author's first book. Banned very shortly after publication. Suppressed in England on March 4, 1929. As a result, there is likely only a handful of copies remaining. In fact, the copy in the British Library is one of the 'French' copies published subsequent to the English copies. Sleeveless Errand was ruled obscene at the Bow Street Police Court. All but a few representative copies were ordered to be destroyed. The police had been tipped off about the content by the editor of the Morning Post after they had received a review copy. It was subsequently printed in Paris the same year by Jack Kahane's Obelisk Press. According to one publication, "Sleeveless Errand was probably the most suppressed novel ever published in England; every store containing copies was raided; and a guard stood for a week-end at the window of one store containing one copy, until the owner could be…

"Pulcinoelefante" is an Italian publishing house founded by Alberto Casiraghi (or Casiraghy). The books are hand printed using movable types on the high-quality Hahnemühle paper produced in Germany. Annually "Pulcinoelefante" publishes hundreds of small plaquettes formed by a text (aphorism or short poem), accompanied by small engravings or original drawings made by artists. Each edition is published in a very small number of copies hors de commerce.
Read More
