This is truly a one of a kind. It is one of only 2,000 copies of the first edition, and has an inscription by Updike where he thanks the inscription recipient for her championing of famed British author, Henry Green, who Updike said "his novels made more of a stylistic impact upon me than those of any writer living or dead" in an introduction to an edition (Penguin Twentieth-Century Classics USA, 1993) of three of Green's novels (Living, Loving and Party Going). The inscription reads "to Mrs. Price/ with thanks for the/ hospitality in Liverpool/ and the championship/ of Henry Green/ from Mrs. Pennington's/ son-in-law John Updike".
The book has gray boards backed in black cloth with publisher logo stamped at front board and titles in gilt at spine. Touches of toning to boards. Front and rear hinge repaired with resulting adhesive residue. Mild toning to jacket with touches foxing at rear panel. Minor wear at edges and spine ends.
