Gilt titles and decoration to front covers and spines, quarter leather over matching pebbled boards, marbled end papers, red page edges. Bindings tight, heavy wear to leather corners with some chipping, most spines intact with bumped ends; first volume spine is chipped top and bottom, interior pages very lightly tanned, tissue intact, most volumes appear never to have been opened, no obvious markings on pages, former owner's nameplate on front fixed endpapers.

Oversize, measure 9 1/4 x 12 inches.

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
