[2], 14, 28, 333, [1 blank] pp. LACKS the title leaf to the Acts and Laws following page 28. Text with scattered spotting. Except as noted, Good+ in contemporary calf, with spine title in early manuscript.
The Laws, dating from 1692, treat the varied issues arising in this early American community, including inheritance and property; judicial procedure and courts; drunkenness, profanity, fornication, adultery [the letter 'A' required to be worn by those convicted of that crime], other crimes, tavern-keeping; public support of the Christian ministry; the Oath of Allegiance and Supremacy to King and Queen; apportionment of representatives; prohibiting any "of the French Nation" from residing in the Province without a license; usury, highways, the militia, Indians, slaves, and a host of other matters.

Boston: Samuel Kneeland and Timothy Green, 1742. Compilation of acts passed by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1692 through 1742. Also bound in are two acts (Evans 5237 and 5238) that were passed in 1743. Preceding the compilation are the colony's Charter and a "Table of Acts". Sympathetically rebound in full brown leather, with original leather laid down on front and rear boards. Missing the title page and first 2 pages of the Charter. Would be in very good condition but for some chewing at the foot of the spine; so, about good.. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible-Good. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.

Small hole in margin of CHARTER with loss of a few letters. A good copy. The "Table" of the ACTS is bound before the ACTS. Bound at the end of the volume are two subsequent Massachusetts ACTS AND LAWS printed in 1743, pp.339-340 (EVANS 5237) and pp.341-344 (EVANS 5238).
