A century after the Civil War took place, Topps issued their Civil War News card set. Released in 1962, the 88 card set consisted of 87 cards depicting the most well-known battles that took place during the Civil War.

Civil War News is a 1962 collector card series from Topps, containing hand-painted scenes of different battles and historical events of the American Civil War. Each card depicted graphic, bloody and extremely realistic images painted by famous pulp artist Norm Saunders. The front of each card has a caption in a white box set inside the picture area. The backs are gray with a red-brown border; the card number is located on the border at the bottom corner at the righthand side.

Civil War bubblegum cards (that's what the set was actually called) became known by collectors as The Civil War News. This was the result of the card backs, which chronicled each civil war event via a newspaper journal format, using a generic banner called CIVIL WAR NEWS. It was never meant to be the name of the card series, but collectors have certainly picked up on that

I DO NOT GRADE CARDS But in my opinion these Cards are in Excellent condition and most are perfectly centered with crisp corners. No tears.

Description:
1874 1ed Confederate General Joseph E Johnston Civil War Narrative CSA Military
Joseph E. Johnston was a 19th-century American Army officer who served as a Confederate States Army general, even though he trained at West Point. However, his military acumen was wrecked and constantly criticized by Confederate President Jefferson Davis – with whom Johnston was very displeased. Following his service time as a military officer, Johnston wrote and published his own memoirs – memoirs which were mostly attacks on President Davis and other officers, as well as defending his own actions and decisions during the Civil War.

'In Tall Cotton' says of this work:
"A vigorous defense of his own actions and necessarily, therefore, a hard-hitting attack on others, particularly on President Davis against whom he records his objections to excess."

According to Nevins, this work is
"one of the earliest Confederate reminiscences; strongly partisan, anti-Davis, and defensive in tone."

Per Eicher,
"This is one of the… Read More

1849 Washington Grays Philadelphia Light Artillery CIVIL WAR Soldier PROVENANCE
"Without question [the Washington Grays] have been the parent and pattern of the militia of the City and State, as well as the foundation upon which was erected the magnificent National Guard of Pennsylvania if not of the entire country."
—John Oppell Foering
Scarcely printed, this copy of the 'Constitution and By-Laws…' of the historic Washington Grays of Philadelphia is incredibly rare! The Washing Grays Artillery Corp was an American volunteer regiment which functioned during both peace and war times. Formed in 1822, the iconic regiment would be continually relevant across the history of 19th-century America. Before becoming integrated into the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1879, the Corps would be utilized in numerous events and battles, including:
·
Philadelphia Nativist Riots, 1844
·
Mexican-American War, 1846
·

Description:
1867 Confederate 1ed John Morgan's Raid CIVIL WAR Basil Duke Gettysburg Vicksburg
John Hunt Morgan was a Confederate general in the American Civil War known mostly by his now famous Raid, an operation now known as 'Morgan's Raid'. Morgan sought to slow the Union growth in both Vicksburg and Gettysburg (both of which would become war-changing battles) by moving Confederate troops throughout the North hoping to draw Union armies toward the raiders and away from strongholds.
Morgan was shot and killed during his raid; however, one of Morgan's officers, Basil Duke, wrote a memoir on the life of General Morgan following the War – a work which provides incredible first-hand details on the raid and its influence on the Civil War.
According to Coleman,
"This work is the standard account of General John H. Morgan and his Confederate Cavalry. The author, Basil Duke, assumed command of Morgan's Cavalry after the death of General Morgan in 1864."
Krick supports this by saying that the work is
