Very good. 215 p. 215 pp plus 8 pages ads at back A treasure with huge coloured pull-out map in perfect condition. This "Colonial Office Lists" started in 1862, and this is one of the very earliest. Moreover it is in magnificent condition, toned of course. The gilt titling and insignia are bright; corner bumps are minimal with no loss of color, tops of spine are undamaged. Ask for scans so as to see the very minor dark marks on front and back boards. Inside front board in a Victorian hand is written "Governor's Office."I also have 1866

Measures around 8" by 5 3/4" by 1 1/4". Green soft leather binding, gilt edging and detail to boards, gilt college crest to front board, red leather label and gilt lettering and extensive detail to spine. Some scuffing, a little marking, small signs of shelf-wear but overall colouring of leather and gilt detail very vivid apart from rubbing to small part of crest on front board. Binding firm. Corners slightly bumped. Book fans out a little towards outer edges, slight curvature to boards. Page edges and endpapers have attractive marbling. College prizegiving bookplate to front pastedown. This is an extraordinarily fine example of the only printing of the "Political" edition of this striking wartime speech pamphlet. Published in April, 1945, by the National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations, this was a campaign piece for the forthcoming General Election, containing Churchill's March 15, 1945 address to the Party Conference at Central Hall, Westminster. It attests to the fact that, as the war in Europe drew toward an inexorable close, the suspended tensions of domestic politics intruded ever more urgently on the politically unified war effort, fracturing the wartime coalition that had acknowledged Churchill as its indispensible Prime Minister.
