This is number 291 of an edition limited to 450 copies. Beautifully rebound in full red leather, top-edge-gilt, deeply embossed with an illustration of a fleurs-de-lys decorated ewer, over a book framed by a wreath of grape leaves and bunches of grapes over a pattern of square tiles, on both the front and back boards, embossed ivy device on spine and author and title in gilt on spine. Very slight rubbing to extremities, discreet bookseller's label on the recto of the front free end paper, else very good plus in a very good plus binding. An elegantly bound and beautifully illustrated copy of this scarce limited edition of Rabelais' classic work.
