About This Item

London: J. Dodsley, in Pall-Mall, 1779. Very good overall. Contemporary scuffed leather boards, 8.75 inch 8vo., rebacked with red gilt-lettered spine label and new end-papers. Frontispiece map (The World as far as known to the Ancients), title page, dedication to Francis North (Lord Bishop of Worcester), table of contents, 99 pp text with individual section titles. The other six maps (all 7 have attributions to Kitchen/Kitchin) are: Ancient Europe, Ancient Asia, Ancient Africa, The Voyage of Aeneas, The Voyage of Ulyses (sic), The Voyage of St. Paul. There is mild lower dampstaing to the first 15pp, but all maps images are relatively clean, with very little browining or foxing. A few small stains on the title page. This is ostensibly the third edition (not indicated in text), with a few earlier editions noted. This is a very uncommon geography, with the full set of maps by Thomas Kitchen. A few copies of this are seen in the online KVK catalogue. .

About The Prime Meridian: Antique Maps & Books

The Prime Meridian: Antique Maps & Books is owned and operated by Joel & Deborah Kovarsky. We first opened in 1998, but have had a decades-old interest in old maps, books, and paper, stemming from a comparable long-standing interest in how knowledge is used. Our business is run via the internet. We do not run an open shop, however we do welcome visitors by appointment only. Before attempting a visit, please contact us. We are a specialty business, dealing in antiquarian maps and related books (atlases, history of cartography, selected reference books, etc.). Please feel free to contact us for specific inquiries.
