Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Louis A. Godey, 1849. First Edition. Hardcover--leather. Fair. One volume--6 issues bound without covers and advertisements. Small quarto, 10" tall, 470 pages + plates + index, gilt spine titles, three-quarter black leather on brown cloth. A fair hard cover only overall with many problems: general exterior shelf wear, fore-corner tips worn through to boards, leather backstrip chipping and cracked, binding broken, signatures and some pages loose, first three plates loose, paper light to moderately yellowed, BUT scattered foxing and finger soiling throughout; the first ten editorial pages (including July title page) are missine, but all other editorial material appears to be present, (articles, stories, poetry, etc.) of the separate issues many pages have end tatters, five hand-colored fashion plates present as well as 21 other engraved plates (24 plate illustration noted in index)--many other regular plate printed plates present, including music. Lacking advertisements and individual covers. It was the practice of the time for most of the better literary magazines to issue such editions before melting down the original printers' plates.
