Based on six years of talking with and traveling with Ali, Richard Dunham has produced the definitive story of Muhammad Ali as he has lived it. In this book, the heavyweight champion chronicles the battles he has faced in and out of the ring. The book is a multifaceted portrait of Muhammad Ali as sports legend; unapologetic anti-war advocate; goodwill ambassador; fighter, lover, poet, and provocateur. Westminister, Maryland, U.S.A.: Alfred a Knopf Inc, 2005.. Octavo, hardcover, near fine in near fine yellow dj. First edition. 305 pages. A caper starring the plucky Royal Thai police detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep. It takes place once more in District 8---the seedy underground world of Bankok, where a dramatically mutilated dead body is discovered . A CIA body, as it were. Bad enough, but the killer seems to be Chanya, a hard-boiled, sweet working girl, one of the best at The Old Man's Club (an establishment owned by both Sonchai's mother and his boss, Police Colonel Vikorn). Vikorn concocts a cover-up story, but the real truth will be harder to come by and will necessitate Sonchai coming to grips with his job and its rigors and his Buddhism as he runs the gamut of Bangkok's prostitues, drug dealser, bad cops, corrupt military, and the murmurings of his own tender heart.
