HC full period morocco leather elaborately decorated with pictorial and lettered borders in blind and pictorial vignette in gilt to sides. Spine in six compartments with five raised bands; gilt titles and decorations tooled directly to leather at spine dulled. Front board and first two endpages detached at joint with old tape residue repair attempts in the gutters of the endpages. Illustrated with six tissue guarded chromolithographs by Thomas Sinclair after art by the author. Scattered light foxing to page stock; usual light toning to the white paper stock of the chromolithos. Very handsome and elaborate Victorian fine binding but with front board detached and needing some restoration. Mild edge wear to the first color plate. Good only .

FIRST EDITION inscribed 1893, French text, small 4to, 230 x 185 mm, 9 x 7¼ inches, cloth backed cream covers with chromolitho illustration to upper cover of dog in bath tub and small boy in huge bathrobe, 12 text pages, no title page called for, 8 very pretty chromolitho plates (2 by Lizzie Lawson), and sepia illustrations in the text. Patapouf is 5 and learning about life with his brothers and sisters. Head and tail of spine and corners slightly worn, 2 small pale water stains in margin of upper cover, a couple to lower cover with a few tiny brown marks, first and last pages lightly foxed, inscription to reverse of front endpaper. Sizes ranges from 1 x 2 inches to 10 x 14 inches. Each chromolithograph is mounted on white paper stock and professionally sealed in clear plastic and ready to sell (a very few are not sealed in plastic but are still in fine condition.) The chromos are so fine that possibly they were made with some modern process using original 19thc images but we cannot tell for sure. Perfect for sale at a stationary or book store. Pictures of birds, dogs, cats, flowers, soldiers, children, people in exotic costumes, and so on. Excellent for greeting cards, wedding or party favors , invitations, decoupage, crafts etc. All in Very Fine condition. Beautiful! .
