Description:
Washington 1996. A renowned textile artist, Hernmarck was born and educated in Sweden, but since 1975 has lived , worked, and led a highly distinguised career in the United States. In the freely experimental world of American textile art, she is unique in upholding and expanding on her Swedish textile heritage: traditional weaving techniques and narrative images. Her métier, too, is unique- large tapestries for public spaces, often produced in cooperation with renowned architects such as I.M. Pei and Philip Johnson. Since the late sixties, her work has evolved from exhibiting a photorealist style to creating monumental works that have graced buildings around the world. Today, she has returned to a more intimate scale, working from her own watercolors and collages of letters and papers., English, Year1996, Illust. B/W19, Illust.
