A fine set of true first editons of this hugely popular trilogy. There is some confusion about a probable trial issue dustwrapper for the first title, with no advance praise notices on the lower panel and lacking the blue capital letter 'A' at the start of the blurb inside the front flap. This wrapper was not officially issued with the published book. The first edition wrapper, as issued on day of publication, has the price of $21.00 on the inner front flap and the number code '5/92' at the bottom of the inner rear flap. The wrapper on All the Pretty horses in this set has both of these points.

Some foxing, mainly to the first dozen or so pages, otherwise mostly bright throughout. Finely bound in recent half tan calf. Spine with five raised bands, ruled in blind. Compartments tooled and lettered in gilt. Green title label, gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Top edge gilt. A very good attractive copy of this scarce war time Sherlock Holmes title.

Victor Gollancz Limited. London. 1938. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.9 x 5.4 inches). Some very minor browning to the page edges, as is common with the cheap paper used in this book, and a couple of pages with a crease to the outer corner of the page, otherwise a very good copy finely bound in recent full black morocco, spine with five raised bands, the compartments lettered, ruled and decorated in gilt. Top edge gilt.

Collins. London. 1958. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.2 x 5.6 inches). Illustrated throughout with line drawings by Fortnum. A few marks to some pages but overall a very good copy in a fine leather binding of recent full red morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Decorative gilt border on boards. Top edge gilt. A very good and attractive first edition of the first Paddington Bear adventure.

Martin Lester, Limited. Dublin. 1919. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.4 x 5.1 inches). Very good copy in publishers green cloth, spine lettered in black. With the extremely rare original colour illustrated dustwrapper. Front panel with illustration by Matthew W. Barry. Spine, which is a bit dulled, lettered in green (price 7/- net). Rear panel with publishers advert. Small (7 x 3 mm) hole to the bottom of the spine otherwise a very good bright example of the rare wrapper. A lovely copy of this powerful novel, set against the background of the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin.

NY: Knopf, 1965. First edition, first prnt. Signed by Tyler on the title page. Laid in is a typed note with ink signature on 6x7 inch 20lb stock. "Louise: here is a peculiar little book which I was suppose (sic) to review but couldn't think of anything to say about -- which is not to say I didn't like it. But it left me baffled. See what you think. It's coming out this month. Behave yourself. Either get rid of the whiskey or the scatter rugs. I know what I'd do. Love, (indecipherable first name signature - could be "Helen")." The front board has a faint rust mark left by a paperclip; otherwise it is an exceptionally clean, tight copy; the dustjacket has the upper corners just touched, mildly sunned spine and a shallow paperclip impression on the front panel upper edge - see scan.
