Cello Press, 2015. Soft Cover. New. Beatrix Potter, Stanley Badmin, Arthur Boyd Houghton, John Vernon Lord. First Edition. In this issue Emma Laws explores the origins of Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit using examples of Potter's watercolours and sketchbooks. The cover featured artist is Stanley Badmin who created an idealised rural Britain that influenced a generation of children through Puffin Picture Books. Simon Cooke reveals the sometimes sinister work of the Victorian artist Arthur Boyd Houghton who was known as the "Young Genius". His detailed line work deserves much wider recognition today. There is also a fascinating article on the work of John Vernon Lord who has had the virtually impossible task of illustrating James Joyce's epics Finnegan's Wake and Ulysses. 48 pages. Full Colour illustrations. 8" x 12" (203mm x 305mm).
