No dust jacket, this is John Gardner's first book, preceding his The Resurrection by four years, it is essentially a text book written while he was an English professor at Chico State College, Signed by Gardner, it includes John Steinbeck's The Chrysanthemums, pages 248-258, text from The Long Valley, Goldstone & Payne B124, not recorded by Morrow, also includes Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Edgar Allan Poe, Anton Chekhov, James Joyce, and others. Very good plus.

Lucchesi, includes four short stories, they are The Warrior's Soul, Prince Roman, The Tale, and The Black Mate, all the stories were privately printed originally, this is their first trade publication, Smith 27, Keating 193. Very good.

Inscribed copy of this first collected edition of Fuchs' enduring novels about life in Depression-era Brooklyn, "Summer in Williamsburg," "Homage to Blenholt," and "Low Company," originally published in 1934, 1936, and 1937, respectively. Fuchs has lovingly inscribed this copy to Susan Foster, a long-time personal assistant to film and literary mega-agent Irving Paul Lazar, and later Frank Sinatra. The nature of Fuchs and Foster's acquaintance is unknown, though it seems safe to assume that they might have met during Fuchs' long tenure as a Hollywood scriptwriter. His inscription, "From one Brighton Beachcomber to another," also leaves open the possibility that the two had known each other growing up in Brooklyn. This is a very representative copy of the 'Centenary Edition' of the poetry of Robert Burns. Bound by the famous Bayntun (Riviére) bindery in Bath in decorative half leather and cloth covered boards. The spines have five raised bands, gilt lettering on morocco labels and gilt tooling to compartments. Top edges gilt. Bindings remain generally clean, some ligth surface streaks to leather on some boards. Joints rubbed,some cracking mainly to upper joints resulting in a little movement to boards, others remain firm. Book appears gently read, with concave spine and gentle rubbing to edges of the wraps. Faint odor and mild soiling to book, but no internal markings or major blemishes. A high spot of military literature, the gritty account of a recon platoon scouting an enemy position during WWII. Raoul Walsh directed the 1958 film of the same name starring Aldo Ray, Cliff Robertson and Raymond Massey. Additional photos available upon request. Very Good.
