About This Item

Jos. H. Coates & Co., Philadelphia, 1876. Near fine, detailed chromolithograph of area of this area of northern Virginia. Railroad lines are shown, as is a small city plan of Fredericksburg. Numerous individual landowners are shown, along with moderate topographic detail (Rappahannock River ). This map is from Volume II of the Comte de Paris' multivolume work. Vorzet's original maps were done in French, but this item is from the first American edition, with the map information in English. This American edition was published in 4 volume s, as opposed to the 8 volumes of the French edition. The Comte was banished from France during the production of this work, and the final volume (vol. 4) of the American edition was delayed until 1888. The map listed here is 16.5x16cm..
