New York.: Army Information Branch.. Volume IV, No. 38.. 05-07- 1945.. Poster, full color map on one side, sheet 35 x 47 inches, folded to 11 3/4 x 9 inches as issued. Maps and text on verso. Darkened areas along fold lines are shadows in photograph and DO NOT APPEAR ON ACTUAL MAP. Two 3 inch repaired tears at lower edge, scarcely visible, short separations at several folds, clean and bright condition. In this distinctive map by Richard Edes Harrison, we get a bird's eye view from space with Siberia, Manchuria, Korea and China in the foreground looking to Sakhalin, Japan and the Ryukyu Islands, with the curve of the globe in the furthest distance. Color is used to give a 3-D effect to the landscape, with the lowlands in green and mountains in tones of yellow and brown. Harrison's maps were instrumental in making the American public view the world in a new way, reflecting the realities of the "aviation age". Simply a stunning map, that was originally published in Fortune magazine. The mainland of China is depicted north of Shanghai and Ningpo. On the verso are three smaller maps. One shows Germany and surrounding countries, illustrating the page headline "U.S. - Soviet Armies Join." There are two maps illustrating "Pacific Action," the smaller showing Burma and Thailand and the larger China, Formosa and the Philippines. .
