In a J Sampson of York gilt stampedbinding. The hero of this book is John Paul Jones, who is always brooding on a dark past and darker fate. James Fenimore Cooper was a prolific and popular author of the early nineteenth century. Condition: In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with a small amount of light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. Bookplate to the front pastedown, Richard Lawrence Pemberton. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Binder's stamp to front pastedown, J Sampson. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with scattered spot to endpapers and the odd spot throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED..
