His task he completed with marvellous success; scarcely a line remains as it was, and the general opinion has pronounced decisively in favour of the revision over the original. This rare and stunning 1910 edition tells the true (though exaggerated) story of Miyamoto, Japan's most famous sword expert, philosopher and ronin. It features two maps and several beautiful illustrations, some of which are in color. It is in good condition save for a water spot on the top of the spine of Volume II. The tissue paper used to cover and protect the colored illustrations is intact, but spotted. At some point in its life, a bookseller placed a sticker over the "Published by Author - Yokohama" text on the title pages of both volumes. See photos. Otherwise, these volumes have aged extremely well. This book was self-published by the author as a small collection and is exceedingly rare and would make a proud addition to collectors specializing in world history, Japan, samurai, Eastern philosophy or rare books.

Brooks, Esq.) on the front inside board, title page has small holes on edge and bottom. Small pin hole on right edge through to page 26 where probably punched on wrong edge when getting ready to bind. Water stains and tanning mainly to front and back pages. Page 121 is hand written with a blank back and starts back on page 125. Index pages are creased with a blank between last two pages of index. Front cover is detached.

1553 Sabinus Catalog of Roman & German Emperors ROME Charlemagne Augustus Caesar

Georg Sabinus was a 16th-century German poet and historian who published an important catalogue of the emperors of Rome. Curiously, Sabinus supplemented the lists of Roman rulers with lists of German leaders. Each entry features a short description of the figure including some of which are written in poetic verse. It includes all the known Roman and German rulers such as Charlemagne, Otto the Great, Charles V, Constantine, Julius Caesar, Nero, and Augustus Caesar.
This fascinating Latin edition was published in Wittemberg, Germany in 1553 by Kreutzer

1537 1ed Orthodox Saint John Chrysostom On the Priesthood + Brixius Marburg

A rare 16th-century printing of works of John Chrysostom. Chrysostom was one of the most important Early Christian Church authors and preachers and is most remembered for his sermons and homilies. He preached on many different subjects, but his most frequented topic was helping the needy. Chrysostom calls for followers of Jesus to set aside their material desires to help the poor, often in a way that shamed the rich and guilted them in to giving.
"Do you pay such honor to your excrements as to receive them into a silver chamber-pot when another man made in the image of God is perishing in the cold?" (Chrysostom in Liebeschuetz)

One of his most important treatises was 'On the Priesthood' in which he describes his experiences becoming a priest and living as a priest. Interestingly, this work was popular during his lifetime as he made references to it in his other works.
