Boston, Massachusetts: Little, Brown, and Company, 1857. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/Without dust jacket. Octavo, 8 3/4" tall, 540 and 575 pages respectively, marbled endpapers and fore-edges, full calf, gilt tooled edging, with gilt titles on black and maroon leather spine labels. A very good, clean, sturdy set overall; bindings solid, paper light to moderately yellowed, but there is some scuffing to leather at the extremities, two fore-corner tips through to board, top and bottom edges of backstrip of vol. 1 have been chipped, and one spine label has been re-attached with aged scotch tape!! This leather label appears to be a replacement and is maroon and not black. All these flaws are relatively minor given the general quality of the set.
