His book : " the True-Born True-Born Englishman" brought him favour, but hisbook : " The Shortest Way With Dissenters" led to his being fined, pilloried, and put in prison. He was suseqyently sent ot Scotland by Queen Anne to promote the Union. Prodigious English author,journalist, pamphleteer notably including also " Robinson Crusoe" - one of the earliet proponents of the novel. A classic novel in form of an autobiography drawn from real life. About a woman compromised, a woman with five children to care for, trading her virtue to survive,and later trading her affections for fame, wealth and fortune as" a wicked woman " - a mistress of a rich and powerful man. Defoe deftly writes of a ruthless, heartless, vain and obstinate woman who knows she is a resourceful adventuress and is unforging in analyzing herself.
