Ex-lib with call number on spine, several inked and penciled notations on de dication page; pocket or residue. A clean tight copy overall, wit h scattered foxing and faint soiling throughout. This is the less sought-after first printing issued without frontispiece or the map published for the second edition in 1850.

Johnson came by way of Panama. Detailed narrative of first years of gold discovery. Some light cosmetic restoration to the covers, lightly foxed, else a good copy.
