On the commemoration of 40 years since the death of Panayotis Michelis, the Department of Architecture organized a Conference on ‘The Significance of Philosophy in Architectural Education’, at the University of Patras, Greece. The aim of the meeting was to investigate the role of philosophy in architectural education and to give answers to certain fundamental questions seem to arise, such as: (1) Can philosophy play a constructive role in the education of contemporary architects? (2) Is the presence of philosophy today necessary in architects’ spatial investigations, in their search for new forms and manners of dwelling and their ideological transformations?
