1939. CHRISTIE, Agatha. TEN LITTLE NIGGERS. London: The Crime Club, [1939]. Small 8vo., cloth in dust jacket. First English Edition. Undoubtedly Christie's most politically-incorrect title by today's standards. The title was changed to "Ten Little Indians" when the book was published in America and the design of the dust jacket was also changed. The title was again changed to "And Then There Were None" for the 1945 movie version, which is probably the best film adaptation of any Christie novel. Very Good (minor soil covers); in an attrractive dust jacket that has some professional resotration, particularly to several former chips and to the spine ends. Enclosed in a custom-designed clam-shell box depicting a Negro baby on the front cover. An attractive copy of a scarce title. $9000.00.

Description:
Fontana / Collins, London, 1973. Sixteenth Impression. Softcover. Good Condition. The classic Christie nail-biter with an original controversial title which later editions were published with the less offensive title of "Ten Little Indians" or "And Then There Were None". Named after the children's counting rhyme and minstrel song, which serves as a major plot element. The US edition was released in January 1940 with the title And Then There Were None, taken from the last five words of the song. Successive American reprints and adaptations use that title, though Pocket Books paperbacks used the title Ten Little Indians between 1964 and 1986. UK editions continued to use the original title until 1985. Foxing to outer page edges. 190 pages. Pages browned. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
