Description:
Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, 1860. Paperback. 8vo. Wrappers. 6pp. Very good. Although the goal of this report was to urge the state conventions of South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida "that no final separate State action shall be taken upon the question of secession from the Union, until a general Convention of the Southern States can be had," it was not received before South Carolina's withdrawal; therefore, this pamphlet became South Carolina's attempt "briefly to state the causes which induced the passage of the Ordinance" to Georgians. This she does, passionately, and, yes, briefly. A very scarce Confederate imprint. PARRISH 3815.

Washington, DC: Government Printing Office, 1868. Very Good. Quarto. Volume I, Preliminaries, opening arguments, evident; Volume II, Arguments and final vote; Volume III, Opinions and Appendix. First Edition bound in black buckram with owner's name (John P. Frank, the noted attorney who wrote on Lincoln as a lawyer and and wrote the Miranda brief which is partner, John Flynn argued and won in the U.S. Supreme Court). Frank wrote 11 books but he thoroughly researched the complexities in history and the impeachment of Andrew Johnson was one that blended fiery political enemies in the most dramatic charges of a sitting President until the impeachment of Richard Nixon.

New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1863. First Edition. 18mo (6"x4"). One of the rarest books on Civil War leadership and the responsibilities of Company officers. The principal portion of this work was written while the author was confined as a prisoner of war in the State of Georgia, and contains, in a small compass, a large amount of information to Company Officers which can not be found in the "Regulations." An officer can not fail to be better qualified for a command after a careful perusal of its pages. Andrews served with the Third Regiment Minnesota Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, rising from his role as Lt. Colonel at Vicksburg to full Colonel at Fitzhugh's Woods and finally to Brigadier General at Pine Bluff. In 1865 he was assigned to the command of the Second Division of the VIII Corps and participated in the siege of Fort Blakely and then finished his role in command of the Mobile division where he was brevetted Major General. 68pp., (16)pp ads at rear. bound in red cloth lettered in gilt, spine…
