"This is a fairly slim volume of about 100 pages, but the author manages to pack into it a lot of information. The significant actions are reviewed along with some discussion of the origins of the French presence in Indochina and some of the political background. Each chapter has a source list and recommended titles for further reading. There are also appendices giving the military structures of the two protagonists. It is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in the period, or just looking for some background to the origins of the later US involvement in Vietnam."
