Tny bumps to corners with some wear to the tips. Quarter-inch nick to the head of the spine with some associated wear. The overall appearance of the binding is slightly weary. In 1939 ( or it may have been 1938) the author and his wife undertook a massive trek across Africa starting in South-West Africa, the first German colony, then down through South Africa, by boat from Durban to Dar-es-Salaam and then by car through Tanganyika, Kenya, Uganda, Ruanda-Urundi, the Belgian Congo, French Equatorial Africa, and the French Cameroons, Finally sailing on an Italian tramp steamer from the Gold Coast two months to the day before the start of World War Two. This not just a travel book; Negley, who has written several other books on Africa, has some very pertinent points concerning the future of Africa as seen from the viewpoint of the 1930s..
