Book Description

London: W.H. Allen, 1968. A Very Good + unmarked copy with VG+ complete dustjacket which is protected by a plastic cover. Edited by Charles Foley. Richard Wurmbrand, playboy turned preacher, was held for 14 years in Communist prisons and his jailers tried to force him to confess that he was part of an imperialist spy network. Rather than lend himself to a Mindszenty-type trial, he determined to kill himself if he felt his resistence going, but in spite of beatings, torture and drugging, his spirit did not break. For almost 3 years he was kept in a room three paces by three, 35 feet underground, with only a tube for air and alone, in silencehe often felt such overwhelming joy that he danced at night. Then he learnt to convert others by tapping messages in Morse Code on the walss, and heard confessions from unseen prisoners. For two more years he was a patient in the 'death room', so called because no other man had left it alive, and here too he found his parish. An unforgettable gallery of thieves, murderers, saints and sinners shared his cell until each in turn passed through the gap of death. A very terrible story indeed but it is lit by the power of love , courage and belief. *** NOT EX LIB *** . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

"A great example of a man who stood for Christ through great persecution. Perhaps too the testimony of his wife and son who stayed faithful through the many many years of Wurmbrand's imprisonment should spur believers on to stand steadfast through trials and tribulations."
