After depicting the early years of settlement in Manitoba, it tells of the first attempts by western farmers to establish a farm organization and of the first ventures into farmer-owned grain handling companies. It outlines the reasons why many western grain producers considered it important to establish the Wheat Pools in 1923 and 1924, and traces the intitial success of the Pools, followed by the financial difficulties of the 1930's, and the reorganization of Manitoba Pool Elevators in 1931 to become the parent company, replacing the bankrupt Manitoba Wheat Pool. It records the important role played by Manitoba Pool Elevators since that time, in the community and provincial affairs of Manitoba and of the part played by its leaders in the national and international affairs of the world agricultural industry..
