A continuation of Lang's classic work, with thirty-seven familiar and less well known fairy tales from German, Norse, French and other sources. Stories include Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Voice of Death, The Six Sillies, The Story of Sigurd and more. Publisher's catalog in back of book. Red cloth binding with gilt illustration on front cover, gilt illustration and lettering on spine, gilt allpage edges and burgundy end papers. Spine darkened, some spotting of cover, top edge of spine chipped, back cover scrubbed and a little stained, corners bumped, front hinge a little loose, interior pages lightly foxed in places but not tanning, gilt on page edges bright, tear at binding of pages 223 to 227, binding a little stressed in center of book but all pages tight, former owner's name and 1890 date on blank page.. Probable First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Fair/No Jacket. Illus. by Ford, H. J. And Lancelot Speed. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
jacket : Sometimes used as another term for dust jacket, a protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.

chipped : A defect in which small pieces missing from the edges.
tight : Used to mean that the binding of a book has not been overly loosened by frequent use.
gilt : Decorative patterns imbedded into the affected portion of a book. Often appears on the boards or the spine, and may be very simple, to elegant, to ludicrous.
frontispiece : A portrait or illustration on the page opposing the title page.
foxed : A discoloration to paper, brown and yellowish spots.
plates : Full page illustrations or photographs. Plates are printed separately from the text of the book, and bound in at production. I.e., they are not sewn as parts of gatherings.
hinge : The portion of a book near the spine that is intended to flex to allow the book to open.
bumped : Indicates that the affected part of the book has been impacted in such a way so as to cause a flattening, indention, or light bending.
Cloth : Generally refers to a hardcover with cloth covering the outside of the book covers.
