Duet in Discord by Garner, Elizabeth (pseudonym of Elma Napier]
First US
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1937 Very large chip missing from fragile facsimile DJ which was tipped down to the front wrapper by the publisher. Front wrapper itself makes no mention of the title or the author, simply stating, "Special advance copy for private and confidential use only. Not to be sold or offered to the public." Copyright page states, "Copyright 1937 Elma Napier." Pre-dates hard cover first edition by several months. Extremely scarce. Elizabeth Garner is the pseudonym of Elma Napier (1892-1973). Elma and her husband, Lennox, were a British couple who settled in Dominica with their family in 1932 and became deeply involved in the life of their adopted country. In 1940 Mrs. Napier became the first woman in the Caribbean to be elected to parliament. She wrote several books including two that were set in Dominica: "Duet in Discord" and "A Flying Fish Whispered.". First US. Original Wraps. Good. Advanced Reading Copy (ARC).
