Book desription: London: Hamish Hamilton. Very Good/Very Good. 1962. 7th Impression. Hardback. With frontispiece and over 26 illustrations, plus endpaper maps and 8 other maps in the text. 385 pages including Notes and Index. Amongst the heroic annals of exploration, the discovery of Central Africa and the sources of the Nile stands out dramatically. Moorehead starts his epic story in 1856, when Burton and Speke vanished from human ken for 2 years. He finishes it in 1900. Between these dates we read of thrilling struggles against hostile tribes, disease, exhaustion and famine, meet a wide variety of picturesque native rulers, and see the slave trade in all its horror. Dust-jacket has rubbing to extremities and a little tiny chipping - repaired inside with archival tape; jacket is in loose protective cover. A nice copy in Very Good condition in a Very Good dust-jacket. .
