Christie's, 1999 . 4to., with a facsimile as frontispiece and numerous fine coloured, tinted and monochrome illustrations throughout; original illustrated wrappers, a fine copy. The sale comprised 191 lots including illuminated MSS and miniatures (lots 1-45), printed books (lots 46-144) and autograph letters (lots (145-191). Notable items included the first edition of 'Even ha-Ezer' (Stone of Assistance) of Jacob Ben Asher, Piove di Sacco 1475, a number of illuminated MSS from France, Germany and Italy, and the extremely rare bible in Latin edited by Speck with a translator's MS annotations, Cologne 1530. This last is the only surviving manuscript witness to English bibical translation before the 17th century and as such is a major document of the scholarly activity of the English Reformation in exile. .
